What is Podcast CPD?

The concept of Podcast CPD originated during July 2020 following the first national lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic. The idea is a simple one, we wanted to provide any staff member (regardless of position or status in a school) with the chance to better themselves through free professional development. The core principles are:

  • It is free to access.
  • It can easily fit around work and family life.
  • Anyone, regardless of technical ability, who owns a phone, tablet or laptop can listen to the podcasts and engage with the CPD
  • It is targeted at people who have a desire to improve themselves.
  • It helps people to connect with others and as a result includes active networking sessions on ZOOM.

Before you decide whether to register then please read the complete explanation and overview which is HERE and focuses on the four key elements that will be developed during this first phase of Podcast CPD: vision, self-improvement, self-regulation and reflection.

What skills will be developed within podcast cpd?

When we began to think about how to curate a list of great podcasts to inspire and move our thinking forward our starting point was around what skills and attributes we wanted to focus on and develop. There are many skills and attributes that we could have built in but in the end we decided that simplicity was key and so we will ensure that across the 10 week programme we focus on the development of four key areas:

Vision – if you are going to make a difference in your area of expertise and the wider world, whether you are a member of the office team, TA, NQT, teacher or even someone outside of education, you’ve got to have a vision. If you are striving to get better, improve, make a difference or climb the career ladder then it is important to visualise and have a clear vision of what you want to become or create.

Reflection – being able to reflect with as much objectivity as we can about our own performance and learning is central to growth and self improvement. To really improve, you have to be able to reflect on how you are operating.

Self Regulation – the ability to regulate how you respond to certain circumstances in work and also in life is a key attribute to leading a happy and fulfilling life both professionally and personally. Self regulation is a critical attribute when operating under pressure.

Self Improvement – the ability to improve yourself as a person and a professional is the very foundation for growth and the starting point for all personal development. When looking at commonalities for successful people, be that in work or on a personal level, they all have one thing in common – they have a thirst and hunger for self improvement.

Registration is simple, free and easy and only takes a minute. Click HERE to access the form.

How will the four skills be developed within the podcast cpd?

Every podcast selected within the 10 week programme will have be chosen because it specifically helps to move our thinking forward in one of the four key skills of vision, reflection, self regulation and self improvement. In some cases one podcast may target more that one of the key skills within the programme and so, to help you know exactly which skill the podcast is developing, we will use the icons above to make the links explicit and clear.

After you have listened to a podcast we will then encourage you to journal your thoughts on what was discussed and how this might move you forward in your learning and personal growth – the journal template we have created for you to use allows for specific focus on targeted skills. Within the Zoom meetings we will also place and emphasis on at least one key skill which we will use as a basis for discussions between participants.

PODCAST CPD COHORT 1

The Podcast CPD list below has been designed to be listened to in a certain order and we would urge you to follow the course list not only in order but also inline with the dates set – this will allow all course participants to discuss the relevant podcasts during the targeted Zoom meetings at various points. We also think that it is important for course participants to have processing time to mull over what has been discussed during a podcast and reflect – this is why we are targeting people listening to one per week.
